Nicks Captains - Round 17

Welcome to the first addition of Nicks Captains. Each week I will post a report analysing what I think to be the best choice of captain for the upcoming week. I'll be looking at the top 10 players in the comp based on their weekly average, as well as a couple of smokies for the week. Note that if there are injured players in the top 10 then I have left them out (which is why for example you will see that I have included Corey Parker, even though he is ranked 14 - he is in the top 10 for un-injured players).

The analysis of the players below is set out as follows:
McLovin(site rank based on avg) - (avg last 3)(score last time the 2 teams met)
Hopefully that makes sense. Here we go:

Broncos v Warriors
Corey Parker(14) - (77)(51)
- Dud. Too much of a pretty boy for my liking, and doesn't have the ticker to be considered captain material. Will get smashed by the mighty Warriors this week.

Dragons v Roosters
Nothing of interest here - Fitzgibbon maybe but not against the Dragons

Rabbits v Wests Tigers
Farah(3) - (67)(108)
- Saturday afternoon game, against Souths. Scored a massive 108 last time they met. Will be looking to impress after what could possibly be described as the worst origin performance ever. Must be considered.

Storm v Knights
Gidley(11) - (54)(n/a)
- Still looks a bit tired after Origin. Scores have been considerably down in the last 3. Playing Melbourne in Melbourne. No go.

Cowboys v Sharks
Tupou(10) - (62)(96)
- Is carrying a 16 in his rolling average which is making his value extremely low this week (trade tip - get on him ASAP) and also impacting on his 3 week average. 96 last time they met. Top 5 choice for sure.
JT(13) - (53)(107) - JT up against the Sharks = big time points for JT. 107 last time they met. I know our good friend TG is salivating at the prospect of having JT as skipper this week. Solid captain choice.

Raiders v Titans
Bronson(7) - (82)(60)
- Massive game last week at home. Could be looking at another big score this week, although has been a bit inconsistent lately.
Laffranchi(8) - (75)(75) - In Canberra, might be worth a look. Has been very consistent. Won't be in the top 5 but you could certainly do worse than having him as captain.

Panthers v Eels
Hindmarsh(5) - (85)(n/a)
- Massive game last week and against the Panthers this week you would expect he would have another big one. Definitely in top 3 captains for this week.
Waterhouse(9) - (89)(n/a) - Waterhouse loves DT - absolutely loves it. Putting up massive number lately, including a huge 89 average for his last 3 games. Sunday arfo, (hopefully) dry game, against the Eels. Look for him to have another massive game.

Manly v Dawgs
Stagg(4) - (67)(70)
- Monday night at Brookvale. Will score solidly but not enough to be considered captain material. Stay away

Note that the number 1 (Gallen), 2 (Brett Stewart), 6 (Hannant) and 12 (Mateo) ranked average players are all out, and have not been included above.

Based on this, the Nicks Captains top 5 for the week are as follows:
1 - Waterhouse
2 - Hindmarsh
3 - JT
4 - Tupou
5 - Farah

I personally will be going with Hindmarsh, as I don't have Waterhouse. Let everyone know who you are locking in and why!

  3. I'd put JT in as number 1. Sure, the water boy gives you a bit of comfort when it comes to scores high enough to 'be up there', but in DT you gotta put things on the line, and having done the century in their last meeting (seeing that put me over the line - thanks for referring this website on sangsters blog) you just can't go past the cowboys cap.

A swag of goals, a brace of try-assists and linebreak assists, and perhaps a smattering of tackles and linebreaks...

    1. JT, 2. Hindy, 3. Tupou for mine.

Im ranked 640, but with 3 trades and $200K left, so no top 3 finish for me - eyes on the premiership now.

I'll be back in here for sure - good stuff. Hard to beat the AFL for supercoach info.
